The Security Specialist is responsible for monitoring the client’s facilities to ensure the safety and security of their property and personnel by observing and reporting. This position requires a high level of training and professionalism with heavy focus on customer service. Candidates may be assigned to work a fixed and/or patrol position at any time. Responsibilities: Study all assigned areas of responsibility to become very familiar with normal vs. abnormal conditions. Patrol and observe areas of responsibility for criminal or suspicious activity, safety and security hazards, persons in need of assistance or any other unusual condition.  Clearly and effectively decide if your interaction is needed or if the incident requires other professional involvement. Act as an ambassador and assist in the education of the client’s employees and visitors regarding basic safety and security principles.  This includes but is not limited to customer service interactions where there is an opportunity to educate persons on concerns related to policies against “tailgating”, reasons for asset protection and its importance to the company, as well as tools and resources available to them relating to safety and security. Provide a high standard of customer service through professional and courteous inter-action with all persons; employees, visitors, public safety officials, contractors and management. Provide security escorts for employees to their vehicles, either physically or virtually (i.e. telephone, camera) as requested. Perform access control functions including but not limited to processing badges and providing badge support according to policy, monitoring ingress/egress from facilities and critically sensitive areas, ensuring credentials are properly displayed, and monitoring for “tailgating”. Communicate operational, logistical, and administrative needs to the Site Manager for action. Provide rapid response to all alarms and emergency response situations. Learn to proficiently operate CCTV system, computers, software, and peripheral equipment, multi-line telephones, hand-held radios, and weather monitoring equipment. Complete detailed administrative, activity, incident, or investigative reports as required.  Conduct written audits or assessments as requested. Other duties as designated by Client and/or Whelan Qualifications Successful candidates must meet the following requirements: Legally authorized to work in the United States At least 21 years of age or older as required by applicable law or contractual requirements Demonstrate a stable work history Pass an extensive background screening which includes, but is not limited to, criminal background checks (local, state and federal), drug test, aptitude tests, skills assessment, interviews, and personality profile (behavioral assessment) Preferred applicants possess 3-5 years of security industry, military or law enforcement experience Selected candidates must obtain a CA Guard Card prior to hire. Basic skills: Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle and operate in a safe manner Must possess critical thinking and problems solving skills Must be a proactive hands-on, very customer-focused and results oriented person who is comfortable taking on a problem and solving it Must be able to work effectively with little supervision Must possess good verbal and written communication skills in the English language Must possess good telephone and radio communication skills Must be able to function in emergency situations Must possess a professional demeanor and have excellent customer service skills Must be able to multi-task in a dynamic environment Must be able to work independently while also being a team player Must possess intermediate computer knowledge and typing skills Must be able to walk, run and climb stairs Must be able to repetitively open heavy glass, wood, and metal doors Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds (opening & closing roll up doors) Must be able to pass a First Aid/CPR certification Must be able to tolerate exposure to outside elements, including inclement weather, for extended hours.
