Overview

RAND is seeking a mid-level Research Editor with a diverse range of editing and communications skills who will be responsible for online developmental editing, copyediting, copywriting, and typesetting and page layout for print, electronic, and web products in support of the publication of final, peer-reviewed RAND research products. The research editor also advises writers and researchers in matters of style, syntax, and usage to improve the general quality and effectiveness of RAND communications. The research editor may also occasionally provide more-substantive communications support for RAND’s research dissemination and outreach efforts and/or support for RAND’s editorial policies, practices, and operations. Qualifications   ·         Excellent verbal and written skills, along with copyediting and proofreading experience, is required. ·         Able to work well in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment. ·         Familiarity with commonly used style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style and AP Stylebook, plus scholarly citation formats) is required. ·         Thorough knowledge of PC usage for Mac and Windows operating systems. ·         Experience writing and editing for a policy audience is a major plus. ·         Familiarity with online publishing and electronic media is also a major plus. ·         Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Professional and InDesign is highly desired. ·         Knowledge of copyright and intellectual-property issues and familiarity with professional printing requirements; e.g., colorspaces and ISO standards, is desirable. Education Requirements   Bachelor’s degree in English or related discipline; master’s degree preferred. Experience   Minimum of 3 years of experience in a publishing or communications environment. Security Clearance   U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
