Human Resource Manager 3731BR Detroit 248-306-9076 Job Description Whelan Security is looking for a talented and driven leader to manage our Human Resources in the Detroit/Southfield, MI area! Whelan Security is a performance-based company that cares deeply about maintaining our conservative business culture.  The Human Resources Manager is responsible for providing H.R. direction and counsel to managers, streamlining hiring processes to ensure consistent, effective and efficient hiring, and ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws.  The HRM role is 10% strategic and 90% tactical.  The strategic portion consists of driving business results through solid people strategy and leadership, which includes the following four leadership principles – 1) hire great people, 2) set clear expectations, 3) provide the tools they need to succeed, 4) hold them accountable.  The tactical portion requires a willingness to dig in and manage the “weeds” of the business to include risk management (workers compensation/unemployment), recruiting and hiring, employee relations, employee engagement, benefits administration, progressive discipline, compliance with regulatory or collective bargaining requirements (where applicable), and compliance to the Whelan Mandatory Requirements while building upon a culture of employee engagement and setting the example for all employees in the branch/region of servant leadership and personal commitment to the Whelan Values. Qualifications Duties and Responsibilities: Leadership to branch HR team members – may supervise 1-3 office support staff. Tactically involved in the recruitment process to ensure a continuous applicant pool. Utilize internal tools such as Archive list or Snag-A-Job report of qualified candidates and produce emails or make calls to candidates to generate interest in Whelan and increase candidate pool for current and future openings. Ensure constant communication and use of Referral program. Manage and participate in targeted recruiting initiatives by communicating regularly with the Branch Manager, Regional Human Resources Manager, and Client Service Managers regarding specific recruiting needs. Attend recruitment functions such as job fairs, career days, and other events to source candidate. Oversee or manage selection, onboarding and placement process specific to all new employees. Oversee the on-boarding process to ensure compliance with company standards such as PEAK and background checks. Communicate open and in process positions to all branch staff. Distribute required weekly, monthly reporting, i.e. WRAP, OPL, New Hire, required training, etc. Ensure compliance to Whelan required training including Welcome to Whelan, Supervisor Training, CPR, and Driver required assessments, training and checklist. Facilitate employee engagement by co-writing eNPS action plans and encouraging officer recognition programs such as Officer of the Month and Making a Difference Awards. Guarantee compliance for all State licensing requirements. Balance the Petty Cash registry monthly. Enforce all State training requirements. Support benefit communication during annual open enrollment and serve as ongoing liaison between officers and corporate office. Ensure compliance with regulatory or collective bargaining requirements (where applicable). Process FMLA/LOA requests. Manage all worker’s compensation claims for the branch. Ensure OSHA compliance and reporting for the branch. Complete all requests for Unemployment claims for the branch. Responsible for creating a Safety culture within the branch. Facilitate branch progressive disciple policies and ensure it is executed fairly and consistently. Respond to all Ethics & Compliance hotline alerts. Investigate all allegations of policy violations. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge and abilities: Ability to work collaboratively and openly with cross-functional business partners in a non-hierarchical environment. Action oriented and results driven with ability to get projects done with limited resources. Collaborative partner – with external as well as internal personnel. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Ability to think and react in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. Self-starter, able to drive projects to conclusion and work effectively with a variety of people at various levels within the company. Comfortable Dealing with Ambiguity. Must possess a strong understanding and appreciation of a diverse work environment and have the ability to demonstrate initiatives for recruiting for diversity. Must have a working knowledge of Human Resource topics (FMLA, Unemployment Claims, Workman’s Comp, Employment Law, Harassment, etc…) as well as discrimination laws related to recruiting, hiring, and transferring employees. Must demonstrate the ability to act independently and make quality decisions. Qualifications: Years of Experience: 3-5 years HR Generalist or HR Leadership role in a diverse organization. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Experience with applicant tracking systems and recruitment processes. Experience with HRIS systems. Good understanding of sourcing and selection techniques, inclusive of social media technology. Education Educational Qualification(s): BS/BA Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
